Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM)

Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) is a very detailed maintenance management process which bases maintenance inspection frequencies, rebuild requirements and component replacement intervals on theoretical lives, condition based assessment and probability of failure data. Having established the inspection and repair requirements of this type of maintenance activity, expenditures can then be classified as being expense (i.e. keep the component operating with minimal deterioration to the overall lifecycle) or capital (extending the lifecycle or capacity of a component) in nature, and where appropriate recorded as part of a lifecycle program.

TCPS® will allow an organization to extend the life of an asset based on RCM type practices which are introduced retroactively into a component lifecycle. It will also allow events to be inserted into the component lifecycle so that total lifecycle costs can be tracked and assessed.

Altus Capital Planning Solutions will help organizations complete implementation of data tracking required or associated with Reliability Centered Maintenance. Although a small part of the overall RCM business practice, using TCPS® is a crucial analysis tool in assessing the overall effectiveness and impact of RCM on an asset portfolio.
